Pan gasket on a 350

Well, i tried the one piece rubber gasket for my oil pan; followed the instructions, only put sealer on the corners and left the rest dry. I had it on for a week. Ran around town here in sunny Las Vegas. Then went on the Mesquite run for four days, got back and it started leaking like a sieve at both ends. any ideas?

Re: Pan gasket on a 350

did you use plenty of sealant? I have heard that the 1 piece gaskets don't seal very well.

Re: Pan gasket on a 350

i work in the automotive repair business and i won't use rubber
gaskets unless its the only thing availible...they never seal like cork ones also great believer in "RIGHT STUFF" GASKET SEALANT
works best of all sealers

good luck jay

RTV is not recommended for rubber. I had the same problem. Went back with Permatex #2 in all the bolt holes (even the blind ones) and smeared it out to the sides on the front lip.

Re: Pan gasket on a 350

Which one piece gasket did you try? Was it the Fel-Pro blue one? Are you sure it was the correct one for your oil pan thick/thin front seal? Where is it leaking? What oil pan? Was it leaking before and that is why you changed it, or is this on a fresh rebuild? Lots of variables to check out here.
