Rattles and squeeks

Wife and I are going on a road trip ...
As many are awear Our 69 is and has been a daily driver for over 30yrs now..that I know of
Every few yrs I go thru and get rid of the rattles and squeeks
I have 2 that cant find
1/going over rough roads, there is one in the streering column
pushing the wheel up daown sideways ....or holding .moving the sections behind the wheel does nothing...I cant see anything that would rattle with the steering wheel removed...

2/From underneath, can only be heard with the window down, driving down the road...sounds like the E brake cable adjuster rattling against the exhaust...but its not, its not the speedo cable either

The ones I have found ...fixed
money change and a metal pen in the center dash
adjusted the glove box catch
adjusted the drivers window so doesnt tap when not quite up
The front loose number plate
The socket I left in the passengers door a couple yrs ago when putting in central locking..I realised I left it in there just as I put the trim on..would roll when the door opened if parked on a hill.
re cliped one of the heater cables.
The copper capillary oil pressure line tapping against a heater duct
And a tough one in the rear...turned out to be the rear seat base rubbing (squeek) against the rear seat back

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative

Re: Rattles and squeeks

more motor, louder exhaust - what squeeks!

I'm with you though, steel bushings on my suspension rattle, plus some aweful clatter out of the steel dash on a hard bump I can never seem to find.

Re: Rattles and squeeks

Well cant find the one under the car...
Nor the one in the steering column, but now another started...sitting in the drivers seat, then look down to about 1" to the right of the wiper switch..that where it comes from.

Dont you guys find rattles, vibrations, squeeks a pain in the butt when driving?

Re: Rattles and squeeks

Step,

I have a rattle in my column sometimes. I dont have the linkage hooked to the end of the column either for the shifter lockout. What I noticed is if I turn that part of the column ( the part under the steering wheel that keeps the ignition key from coming out )the squeak goes away. I still cant find mine though. I just turn it sometimes.

Re: Rattles and squeeks

I know it is not that part of the column..yeah mind rattled when I didnt have the auto connected up to...
It is higher in the column....but i cant get it to rattle anymore and havnt done anything...

The wife mentioned one on herside inside the dash up above the clove comparment...thats where the burglar alam is mounted...so pulled the clove box out, and found a wire connection tapping.....and forgot to notice which way I pulled the clove box out....they just slip up nps...If you put it in the right way....took ages to get back in lol

And think got a bit of sun stroke...mid summer and blue skys.

Re: Rattles and squeeks

For under the car have you checked the clips for the brake and fuel lines? This is a LOT of work but I know putting sound deadener (like dynamat but I used raammat) on the floor and door panels cut down tremendously on squeaks and rattles because it cuts down on the vibrations from all those big pieces of sheet metal.

Yep fortunatly still have every one of the orginal body clips in place...

I still have all the factory orginal sound deadner panels in doors trunk etc...and felt under carpet /firewall ....
I only go thru the routine every 3 or 5 yrs finding the squeeks/rattles.....the 69 camaro is suprisingly very well setup from the factory to be rather free of these annoyances...If maintaned...And general cabin road/engine noise is very low at cruise...not much more than the wifes corolla...

Hence why just having a couple rattles or tapping is a pain in the butt on a road trip.

The only rattle left is undercar and can only be heard if the drivers window is down, and driving next to a curb or wall...(In NZ we drive on the left hand side of the road so the driver is next to the curb)
