Car cuts off when put in gear

I just got the car running with the new Thumper cam and Holley 650 installed. The new Thumper cam makes my car sound BAD TO THE BONE, It idles fine but when I put it in gear it cuts off. Could it be that the convertor is too small and it needs a Stall convertor like a 2500 or could it be a vacuum leak, anybody got any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Re: Car cuts off when put in gear

I'd adjust the curb idle screw about a 1\4 turn at a time , see if that would work without having to make it rev to high if that didn't help check for vac leaks around carb then intake.

Yeah its an automatic. Sorry I thought mentioning the Stall converter would have been enough info to say it was an automatic trans.

If you have everything set, timing, carb, then check for vac leak. Did you put a vac guage on it?

No I haven't put a vac guage on it, I will, and see how it goes.

Re: Car cuts off when put in gear

Did you power time it? Try and get the most vac first on gauge. Then see where your at with timing light. I do feel you need a stall converter. Get your carb set, those floats first, then your idle circuits.
Start with the basics. Then look for vac leaks. Where does it idle at. I don't know how big the cam is. I have a pretty big cam in mine, I have to be at 1200 rpm in neutral.
