Quick question on rubber hose on fuel filler neck

I am replacing the connecting hose that is about 4inches long that connects the upper neck to the lower neck of the fuel tank.
Is a water hose suitable to replace that its just as thick as the fuel hose but the gentleman at an auto store told me it would melt because of the temp. of the gas but the fuel filler neck doesnt receive that much heat does it?
would it do the job?
am assuming he siad it would melt because he thouht it would be in the engine compartment?

There is no heat. The ? you asked, Fuel hose, water hose, the hoses are made for
different things, you answered your own ????

yes I know they are made for different things. But the question is since there is no heat, which is what differentiates there design. Would the water hose serve the purpose. since I rather not wait 4 days for it to be shipped to my house.
thank you for your response though

Fuel may eat a water hose, if you are selling the car next week go for it, you can
buy fuel rated hose at a boat supply.

Re: Quick question on rubber hose on fuel filler neck

In an old thread (that I can't find again) some one posted NAPA part number 1045 for the 2" ID hose from NAPA made by NBH.

They still had it at my local NAPA yesterday. It was priced at $18 per foot but they sold me half a foot so I was happy. Just posting this for the record.
