Trany issues

Welp I own a 92 3rd gen with a 305 V8. Before i went on deployment last year for five months and then another 6 months after she sat and was only drive a handfull of time but was started. I started driving her 2 days ago and made roughly a 50 mile trip with out a problem and then got home fine but later that evening when I had to go to work the car did not want to shift into third gear and would start reving high and not get into gear. this makes me believe either the torque converter is fried or third gear is toast but I could be wrong bc these are only things I have been told by friends that have both helped work on the car and driven it. The motor obviousely overheats when it starts reveing like that and I can only get the car up to 40-45 mph before it starts doing it and it shifts great into first and second gear. I hope that there is some easy way to fix this but judging by what I've seen and heard it don't sound like something I can do myself please let me know what you guys think and if you need more info ask and I will let answer.

Re: Trany issues

sounds like a clogged filter or pump going bad
when was the last time you changed filter and fluid????
clogged filters are costly btw
they starve the tranny of oil and part wear real quik.
might be rebuild time.

Re: Trany issues

well its got new fluid but im not that car savy to change the filter myself so ill probably eat the fluid and have to get it flushed but it does not want to shift into 3rd it just revs high and acts like its in neutral which cn cause it to over heat. but the car drives fine with out over heating btwn 30-40 mph but once i hit over 40 it wont shift. so im thinking ur right the third gear clutch may be out or just 3rd gear period idk let me know what you think

Re: Trany issues

3/4 cluthes are gone in the tranny. all 700-r4 do it or the sunshell breaks which causes no 2nd or 4th gear.
