NON Camaro help needed!!!-2000 Pontiac Sunfire

My son has a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2l . He came over today with the car running rough and says it has been hard to start. I went to the auto parts and got a code reader - He had 4 codes that showed up- Can someone tell mw where to go from here?
Here are the code descriptions given:

1.(PO440) Evaporative emission control system malfunction

2.(PO113) Intake air temperature circuit high input

3. (PO141) 02 sensor malfunction ( Bank 1 , sensor 2)

4 (PO480) Cooling fan control circuit 1 malfunction.

The car has 160K on it and the exhaust is ready to fall off. It is busted between the exhaust manifold and the cat converter.

If someone could tell me what we need to do next, I would appreciate it.

Re: NON Camaro help needed!!!-2000 Pontiac Sunfire

How long has the problem existed?......before the exhaust broke? if not sure I would do the following:

I would start with correcting the busted exhaust...then erase the codes and then re read the codes.........see if any went away....if not....next....... I would start with the O2 sensor.......and repeat above......then the cooling fan....etc.

Multiple codes can appear when just one thing is not functioning properly.......been there before.....one time it was a stupid spark plug wire.....and the wires were under two years old.......

hope this helps....

Re: NON Camaro help needed!!!-2000 Pontiac Sunfire

I pulled the plugs and replaced just because it needed to be done. Added some gas to be sure it had fuel, cleared the codes and it started up and ran ok. I drove for around 10 minutes and the engine light did not come back on. After returning to the house and leaving it sit for 10 min, I went back out to start it up again. This time it took 3-4 shots at starting before it would stay running. If I turn the key on/off a few times to let the fuel pump prime , it will start and run for a sec and then die.Once it is running it is fine. Could this be due to clogged injectors, fuel pump, ???

Any help is appreciated!

Re: NON Camaro help needed!!!-2000 Pontiac Sunfire

if the intake air temp is wrong it could be running very lean or rich and if the exhaust is broken where you say it is the O2 sensors could be reading incorrectly again messing up air fuel ratios.

NEVER argue with a stupid person. They bring you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.

Might be the filter on the pump....or a pump that is on its way out..........pain to change but not that expensive to eliminate it from the equation......
