1967 Camaro run on problem

Hi, I've come 360 degrees from when this problem began. To begin with, I experienced my car not wanting to turn off when the ignition was switched into the off position. Like many others have had problems with, I could pull the key out and walk away while the car kept idleing perfectly. I replaced the ignition switch, and took the underdash wiring harness out and completely went through the harness and had no wiring problems. Under the hood is a brand new wiring harness also. Finally I replaced the starter solenoid, and the problem was solved. or so I thought... The nose cone broke off of the old starter and I replaced it with a mini starter, and put a pertronix Ignitor 2 electronic ignition kit in and the car ran great for a month. The car sat for 2 weeks and I installed new autometer gauges and it started doing the same thing again!
I have checked to see if the starter was sending voltage back through the small wire on the solenoid which might keep the car running and it wasn't. I tested the positive side of the coil is hot when the key is off, I unplugged the two wires from the coil as they remained hot. So then I unplugged from the firewall connector and lost the voltage. So what I am thinking is that the ignition switch already went bad and I am going to replace it tomorrow. Any suggestions from anyone would be great! Thank You.

Re: 1967 Camaro run on problem

If running an internal regulated alternator, the 'excite' wire going to alt left terminal may be originating from the wrong place inside the dash/body/fusebox. This 'excite' wire should be ign controlled and no voltage on it when ign is off, otherwise, alt still powers electrical system.

OE starter nose broke because front starter brace was probably missing.

I tested the ignition switch and the the two pink wires are constantly hot even with the key out of the ignition. As far as I know they should not be because they run to the coil. Is this correct?

Key off, no power. A red wire on ign switch is directly from horn relay buss bar, power all the time, same wire only split inside dash to headlamp switch is hot with battery power.

But, key off, no power out of ign or headlamp switches if headlamp switch is pushed in, off position.

Re: 1967 Camaro run on problem

Thanks for your help I finally had time to get inside the car started back at the ignition switch and realized the pink wire was getting charged somehow. I took the fuse box apart and somehow a hot wire was pushed up against the pink wire, making it constantly hot. These little things can drive you nuts!!
