Re: why is my 88 iroc-z not firing?

Why send me a private message? Did you just send PM's out to random members?

I don't know much about an 88

Any power to the coil?

You say coil and everything, whats everything?

Re: why is my 88 iroc-z not firing?

1.) When you turn the motor over, does a nice colorful spark happen when you ground the plug against the block? If so, what color is the spark?
2.) What have you touched OR replaced between when the motor was running and now?
3.) Are you sure the motor is getting fuel?
4.) 88 IROC, is it a TPI 305 or the TPI 350 or is it carb or Throttle Body? Standard or Auto?

Re: why is my 88 iroc-z not firing?

With the distributor cap off, does the rotor spin when cranking the engine over?
Is there battery power to the distributor?
Are the spark plugs wet with fuel?

Re: why is my 88 iroc-z not firing?

In changing the coil, is the ground lead screwed underneath one of the coil mounting screws?
Is the spring-loaded button in place between the coil and rotor?

Plugs being wet is good, meaning the the dist is sending reference pulses to ECM and injectors are opening - pulsing.

With timing light on #1 cylinder plug wire, is there a light? And does the flash show the timing marks? At the right time? 10 to 16 BTDC? With EST not bypassed, ECM is controlling aprk timing - disconnect the brown/black wire on pass firewall to bypass and spark will be distributor controlled.

You never answered my question.

How are you testing for spark?
