Loud noise on start-up

If I have to apply the accelerator to get the engine started (like when it's been sitting over night, as compared to just a few minutes) the instant that the engine fires up and starts running on it's own, there's a rally loud, very short noise. It sounds something like a combination of a grinding and a loose belt sound. I have a March serpentine system, but I've checked the belt tension and it's fine.

Could my starter be sticking and/or need to be shimmed? I don't know what that sounds like. I recently pulled and tested the starter; it was making the same noise before and now after... I'll see if I can get some audio of the noise and post it later.

Re: Loud noise on start-up

Try removing the belt and start it. It will eliminate the belt, water pump, power steering pump. Then go from there.

If the noise is still there then its not those parts.
