Unhappy help with 97 comaro please!!1

drove my car to subway it was completely fine. when i went to start my car after leaving the power came on but it wouldn't turn over. i think it might be that i accidentally put the wrong key into the ignition when i got into my car.. does anyone know if that would mess with my ignition and if so how to correct it. thanks

You should try to start the car a second time min three minutes after the first attempt to start.
If it starts, then you might need a new key lock/tumbler in the column as the socket reading the key chip is worn out.
Any GM dealer can sell you a new tumbler with owner verification/registration but the steering wheel has to come off, turn signal/combo lever has to come out, then a torx bit to unlock the tumbler and replace. Air bag comes off also, disconnect the battery and remember/write down the radio security code.

At the bottom of the column are two thin white wires in the connector from the socket.
Read the ohms value from the key chip itself, then insert the key into the tumbler and read ohmic value on the white wires - no ohms, no VATS permission to start.

But a second start attempt after three minutes from the initial attempt should allow the engine to start.

Re: help with 97 comaro please!!1

I have a 97 Z28 that had the same problem, I thought it was the neutral safty switch. I took it to the dealership, they told me it was the starter. I had them put one on. It happened again one time again after they installed the new starter, but the next morning I went out and it has started ever since.
