Carburetor Clacking Noise

All of a sudden, I started noticing a clicking noise when accelerating. It has become a clacking noise and I think I narrowed it down to the carburetor. Maybe clacking isn't the proper description but close enough. It's a Holley 4150 on a 69 Camaro 350 engine. It only occurs when accelerating the carburetor.

Re: Carburetor Clacking Noise

A carb isn't going to click or clack unless the choke is violently flapping. Is it detonation? Retard, oops, sorry. Mentally challenge your timing a couple degrees and see if the clacking goes away. That will eliminate the detonation.

Re: Carburetor Clacking Noise

I set the timing back a bit and it seems to have resolved it but there is something else going on so troubleshooting moves forward.

Re: Carburetor Clacking Noise

Do you have a spacer between the carb and intake manifold. I'm thinking it might be gas percolating in the carb. I see you live in AZ and unlike here in IA it is probably starting to warm up there.

Ted,
It's always warmer than IA. Left the midwest in 2002.

Re: Carburetor Clacking Noise

Turns out, there was a gasket leak at exhaust manifold causing the noise. New gasket, quiet as a mouse.
