Serpentine belt slips off in rain

I have a 96' Camaro.

I'm about to pull my hair out. Every time it rains and water accumulates in the intersection, my belt slips off when I go through the puddles.

A mechanic said that Camaros are bad with puddles and to avoid driving it in the rain. However, sometimes, I need to drive in the rain.

If I can't take it out in the rain, that makes it nearly undrivable.

It seems if there was some kind of splash guard underneath the engine to prevent too much water from getting on the belt, the rain wouldn't be problem.

I believe you are missing the gravel shield. I can't remember right now if that car would have had one from the factory, but probably.
Call the local gm dealer and ask the parts department for one.

Re: Serpentine belt slips off in rain

What ever caused the belt to slip off the very 1st time damaged the belt or even a pully and is why it keeps coming off. I drove my '96 in the rain when i had it and had no belt issues.

You may have some missing plastic under the car but it's there as part of the engine cooling more than anything. Put a new belt on and make sure the pullys are lined up properly and not damaged.
