Noticed rear of s/b (long) waterpump has a plate and a series of bolts that appear to allow access to the internal impeller and housing components. Are there hi-perf impellers or rebuild kits available for the s/b long pump.. Is it better to just replace the entire pump? Is there a prefered water pump, or is GM the way to go on replacement?thx.

they are all rebuildable, but i do not know if they still sell the rebuild kit's over the counter. do it your self rebuilding part's is well kinda going away. the big rebuilder's are takeing over!

i know you can still get the part's to do starter's and alt's your self and wiper motor's too. distributors also.

personaly because of the price a hi quality new after market pump is the way to go in my book. look for a made in USA one. the one's made in mexico and china are well not of very good quality, the casting's are not too good. you shuld be able to get on for around $35.00 to $65.00. hope this helps's ya out.

I used to deal in the H2O pump rebuild market. I would never buy an over the counter rebuilt pump.

The company I work for makes the most H2O pump bearings in the USA. I can count on one hand the number of rebuilders we sell to because they want cheap cheap cheap. China is the leader in rebuilt H2O pump bearings.

Big companies like Autozone and Pep Boys lure in rebuilders with the prospect of millions of rebuilds. However, the rebuilder must honor all warranties even those done by other companies, pay $2+ per core, and stay on a fixed price schedule. The rebuilder finds every means necessary to cut corners, including re-using the bearing. After 2 years the rebuilder is broke and the Big companies find the next rebuilder to suck dry.

A nice new TRW pump will run $75. Stewart also makes great pumps.

New! Vintage 45's and a homemade cowl induction air cleaner.
