I have 350ci rat motor from jasper rated at 355 hp. I was running a edelbrook performer manifold and changed it to a edelbrook air gap. before I changed it it had 20hg of vaccume. now it only has 10hg of vaccume. I know the simplist thing to say is I have a manifold leak but what I was wondering is if the air gap manifold was giving less vaccume. And is there an easier way to check for leaks other than spraying wd 40 or carb cleaner all over your engine?

Yeah, you can also use water, WD40.

But since when did a small block become a "Rat".

the manifold should not have made much noticable diff., if any. the cleanest way to look for a vac. leak is with propane. use a small torch type bottle w/ a hose and valve attached to it, or some means of controlling the gas, and spray it around the manifold and any area that could be offending, it has the same result as spraying wd40 or carb clean (idle will increase) w/o the mess. good luck!

Have you tuned the carb for the new manifold? Timing set the same as well as idle?

thx for the propane tip. I have been playing with the timing and carb. the car had a stumble on hard accelaration so while I was fine tuning things I found the low vacuum. I did have the carb off a couple of times and I re-used the two gaskets for carb & spacer. do you think it can be as simple as that?
