i'm putting my flowmasters on now and am wondering how bad it is to run a street car with exhaust ending right out of muffler before rear axle?

Check with state and local laws. There might be vehicle equipment or safety inspection issues there.

I ran my convertible for a period like that with the roof up. It took a while before I realised why I was getting bad headaches. I soon put the tail pipes back on & would suggest not driving your car with them off.

Yeah, listen to Donaghy. Turndowns in front of the rear axle are nuthin' but a PIA!! They will buy you nothing but troblue with the local COPs and will fill the car with CO that could kill you.

Find an exhaust shop to bend you a set of tailpipes.

It's funny, when I bought my Camaro, it came with a 2" dual set up without tailpipes. The first time my wife went for a ride with me, she told me that she wouldn't step inside of the Camaro 'til I fix the exhaust. She couldn't resist the pounding and we can't even had a conversation inside the car. BTW I didn't liked it either.
