I recently purchased a set of lighter springs for my hei distributor for my 305 sbc. I put in the mid weight ones, and they helped out, and the car idled great but yielded not much change in take off. Now I put in the brass ones which are lighter, and they did make a difference in the way the car takes off, but it idles differently, not so steady. I did reset the idle and timing because the lighter spring made the timing and idle speed change a bit.I just dont know why it is so inconsistent on idle quality. Thanks much

the two light springs are too light and allow centrifical altering of timing at idle. I've encoutered this with my 350. You might try one light spring and one medium spring to find a good steady idle and take off.

I think my set had three different spring pairs (light, med. and heavy) I have the med pair in now.

good luck,
