Is anybody using the new vortec heads that have been drilled to accept the regular intakes. I know jim pace chevrolet is offering these heads so you can use the old style intake instead of the new vortec one. If so any comment about it......good, bad etc.,
Hey, can you give my this guys contact info, I'd like to check into this. I want a set of those heads, but am leering on ditching my perfectly good Edelbrock intake for a new, more expensive one. My email is [email protected]. Thanks
Have no first hand experience, but from what I read and hear, these heads have very little material in the bolt hole area to allow this drilling for the earlier manifolds and the ports don't line up just right either. I think it's too much money to take a risk on this. I'd spend the extra 160 bucks for the correct manifold. It seems the heads are indeed worth the time and money.
I just (yesterday) put a set of vortecs and edelbrock on my 327 RS Conv. Tom3 is right. the thickness of the intake bolt mounting boss on the old heads is about 3/4 in thick where the modified vortec would be about 1/4 in thick. I would only use the drilled heads if I had a special need (race rules, EGR valve, heat riser). I got my edelbrock performer form Sallee Chevrolet for $135 + shipping. Hope this helps!
