89 RS emissions

My 89 RS keeps failing emissions tests. I changed out the EGR valve, the EGR solenoid and the mass airflow sensor. I also ran a fuel injector cleaner and changed the oil and it still fails for high NO levels and failed fuel EVAP test. And also the tech that did the test said that the cyldinders were running really hot. Any ideas??

Re: 89 RS emissions

Failing the evap test means there is a leak in the evap system. Thats the fuel vapor system from the tank to the engine. Best way to find the leak is with a smoke machine.

Do you have the gas analizer numbers?

High NOx could be caused by running lean (possibly a vacuum leak) or carbon deposits in the cylinders. Among many other possibilities...

Re: 89 RS emissions

My '89 RS flunked a few years ago. If the oxygen sensor fails it will ruin the converter. Threw some money at it, all better now.
