I had my tranny rebuilt weeks ago, and when I got it back from my tranny man, my chrome and woodgrain console shifter cannot go back in--the shifter won't go into 1st and 3rd with the plate on--It's a Hurst 4 speed car, and I'm wondering what I could do to make the plate fit back on--Needless to say it looks pretty bad without the plate on, but I'm not skilled enough to do any tranny work-I'm wondering if there is an easy solution to this that maybe I could do-If not, I can at least tell a mechanoc what to do to fix it, after hearing back from the experts here---Thanks-68 ss396/325--my baby!

The position of the shifter is adjustable; the lower mounting bolt is in a slot. Put trans in neutral, disconnect the linkage, loosen the center and lower bolts. The shifter body can then be rotated to center the handle in the console. You will have to re-adjust the linkage.
