My 1999 v6 3.8 has had some strange issues in the last few weeks/months, and we are getting frustrated, and hoping someone could share some advice. First, I just bought it, it has about 80k on it. Recently, when I would go over a rough spot of road, the instrument panel would all of a sudden blink on, as if I had just turned the car on. All the idiot lights would come on, and all my needles would jump to the red zone, then slowly fall back down to 0, and then jump back up to normal. All this happening while I'm still going in whatever gear I was in, at whatever speed. No engine performance issues whatsoever, during this process. My trip-o-meter would also reset everytime this happened. I didn't think much of it, and just tried to avoid all the bumps, but now, in the last 2 weeks, I've been having more and more misfires, and today, it finally is acting as if it doesn't want to drive at all. Continuous misfires in all gears. We've changed the plugs, and put in Bosch platinum. We've changed the fuel filter, the coils, and are now out there with the little bit of daylight left changing the wires. If this doesn't work, can anyone help us with some other ideas. I've read the other posts about the dynamic tests, and I think this may be the way to go. The computer is saying that only cylinder 3 is missing, so I've figured out from reading tonight that we've probably wasted our time changing the coils, as those would cause 2 cylinders to miss at the same time. Can someone re-post more about that dynamic test for us?

CG725, Welcome neighbor. The instrument cluster problem sounds like a ground problem. Could be as simple as removing the cluster and removing/reconnecting the harness plug.
If that doesn't work give these people a call. Techni-Car located in JAX 800-251-6063 They fix all the GM digital clusters around here, most of the dealers use them.

As for the post about the dynamic compression test just use the "search" feature and select
troubleshooting or engine and drivetrain and you should be able to find it.

If the Trip Odometer resets to zero, there's a Technical Service Bulletin. Sorry, but I can't find the number for it. Sometimes they replace the instrument panel. When this happened on my 99Z28, they said it from low voltage. They replaced my battery and all was fine.
