Unhappy

Hi Guys. Hope you can help me with this one!!. I have a 92 Chevy pickup with a 350. 4 speed auto. When cruising down city streets at 25-30 mph, under 1500 rpm,the truck acts like it is starving for fuel, hesitating real bad,and feeling like it is missing. To correct the problem I have replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs dist cap, rotor cap, plug wires.and it still hesitates. there is no problem when you are accelerating from idle to wide open, only when you are at 25 to 30 MPH. any Ideas?????? Thanks

Jeff, here are a few things you may want to check out. Fuel Injection or Carburetor? Possible dirty fuel injectors or jets. Try running some carb/fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. If carb, also spray some carb cleaner in it to clean it up. Since you have replaced the wires, plugs, distributor, rotor etc... Have you checked to see if the timing is correct? It could require some minor adjustments. Good luck..

On the right side disconnect the EGR wires from the egr solenoid. You will see a hose coming from the EGR valve to the solenoid. If you don't pull the wire harness connector, pull the hose off the solenoid and plug the solenoid opening.

Drive it and see if the problem is gone. The engine may knock since there is no EGR functioning and the EGR is very helpful in preventing knock. The knock sensor will cut in if it knocks and retard timing making the engine balky.

If this eliminates the problem, the egr is bad. When they plug up inside, they open too soon and cause a vaccum loss at low speed just off idle.

He's da man. I sure wish I could of amounted all the knowledge you have Dave. The top line might seem kinda dumb and silly but I'm sure I could pump you full of beer and get you to take a bow SS or ZZ in your name it's still a fancy name. OK, I'll quit being strange.

I've replaced three or four of them on our farm pickups the last fiew years. I even cut one apart since there is no apparent damage outside. Inside the stem is hollow and carbon builds up on the underside of the diaphragm, affects opening modulaton somehow.

On one, I had someone hold the brakes while in drive and slowly open the throttle while I watched the valve, I could see the valve opening too far.
Glad you found it. GM has the best valves, if you go aftermarket the valve is generic, with a bag of restrictor washers to select from. Not as nice a deal.
