my 1989 Z will crank and idle fine for about a minute then it will act like it wants to die and then idle right. It does this pretty constant. It will drive. It can get going pretty fast, but it is very slow when you mash on the gas to start out. The motor does not reve up or any thing. IT looks clean to me around the throttle body. I was not sure what the EGR is or where david p meant that I should clean with carb cleaner. Is it what screws into the throttle body and has an electric plug in it.( where did you mean the carbon build up is.

Just a guess, but put some carb cleaner on a rag and clean behind the throttle blades, - the bore and the bades. The EGR outlet is right behind the blades and carbon builds up there restricting air flow at idle.

Check all vaccum hoses and basic tune up before going crazy on the fuel system.

Good suggestion by David P. Don't blast carb cleaner in there though. Use the rag technique as david suggested. The idle air control motor can be damaged by carb cleaner. The alternative is to remove the throttle body, strip the IAC motor and other soft parts. Then you can be more agressive if necessary. Probably want to have the necessary gaskets on hand for reasembly.
