'68 327 2bbl/freshly rebuilt engine.
Engine used to make rapping noise, I replaced lifters, now after installing everything, adjusting rockers, timing, etc, the damn thing won't start.
It is timed properly... sparks, and I can press the carb and it squirts. Turning key cranks but does not start. Why isn't it starting? Anyone want to buy my 68? Two dollars!

Try advancing the distributor some. If it is cranking easily and not kicking back or popping out the carb, most likely the timing is off. Your sure the rockers aren't adjusted too tightly?

How did you set the lifters? Did you follow the procedure in the service manual for static settings? Maybe your distributor is 180 out......check the obvious first.

Be sure you have the engine at tdc #1 cyl.
Check for valves closed.
I went through this with a 454 in my shop
truck recently.I swore the motor was at tdc
and lashed the valves using the timing mark on the balancer as reference.Come to find out
the damn used balancer had spun!We couldn't
find it until I bought a piston stop (screws
in the spark plug hole).The balancer was about 110 deg's out at the mark.Re-lashed and fired on 1st crank.

that too is my curse... I "think" i set it at TDC, when actually i was on the exhaust stroke.. hehehe oops, happens everytime.. I use a remote starter button and a compression guage, when the compression pops the cylinder #1 then your close. set the distributer and should be close to get started.
