I have installed a MSD ready to run distributor PN 8360 in my 67 Camaro which has a 400 small block in it. My tach will now only read up to about 3000 to 3200 RPM. No matter how high I take the Rev's on the engine it will only go to about 3200 RPM. Some one said there may a filter some where in line from the positive side of the coil to the tach. I am unsure where to look for this filter. I do know it is not at the tach and speedometer housing. Does anyone know anything about this? Also, has any one ever had this problem. I have replaced all my ground straps per MSD. I have tried putting a capacitor in line from the coil to the distributor recommended by MSD but nothing works so far. I have sent the factory tach out and had it rebuilt and they said it was ok. The only thing left to do is take the distributor and the tach out and send to MSD. They said they would do a bench test. I have also reinstalled the old point distributor back in to make sure the tach works and it does work normal with the old distributor. But before I take the new distributor and factory tach out I would like to know if any one else has ever heard of this problem?

Try the following link to MSD for TROUBLE SHOOTIN then the TACH PROBLEMS section. They say the same thing about a filter and contact the tach manufacturer for what adapter so maybe try calling MSD and one of them will already know the part you need.
