Can anyone help in this? My friend have a 67 Camaro with a TH 400 trans. and every one or two months it has the same problem. The starter starts to make a strange noise and ends up broken at the nose. We have tried with shims, starter brace and several different starter including a big block one.The car has have two different engines by now including a 454 (now 350) and the result is the same. When its fixed it works flaulessly for weeks but then the noise reappears. Any help from previous experience will be gladly received.

There is a starter that might work. Some blocks around 70-71 or so will only keep this one starter working. This starter came on some Corvette, and also some pick ups. Some of the vettes use the smaller fly wheel,so watch for this.

The starter is easy to spot because it has a cast iron nose piece. If you can't find it by application, see if your parts man will let you go through a few boxes until you find it.

This starter uses shorter bolts than the ones you have now. Get the genuine starter bolts w/ the nerls down close to the threads because they help keep it alined propperly.
