I put a new Auburn posi in my 8.5 rear and after a few months some noise started. This happens mainly while backing up slowly and turning.

I changed the gear oil and posi additive and after a couple weeks it started again. Is this normal for a cone type unit?

Should I try switching to 140 gear oil?

I had the same problem with a 9" Auburn pro series posi in my 55 chevy. I switched to synthetic 75W140 and added a small bottle of friction modifier from ford motorsport. The problem never returned.I've heard this is a common problem with Auburns. This fix worked for me. Good Luck.
