I have an 86 2.8L and the other day it just decided to not start, It was trying to turn over, but couldnt get anywhere. When I finally got the car home I did some basic checks(wires etc) but found nothing..Then I tried to start it again and it ran..so i took it around the block to check it and it stall after driving 15 minutes..but then restarted after 3 tries..now I am scared to drive..cant afford those towing bills ya know...

Welcome to the club, I hope your stay here will be indefinite. Some very good people here.

In a very quiet(?) time/area, just turn the ign switch to ign. Listen for a hum coming from the gas tank area. Might even use a cup and hold it onto the tank and listen. If there is no hum, then either a bad fuel pump relay or bad fuel pump. Usually, pump stays on for twenty seconds if engine isn't started.

I'd change the relay first, it's cheaper.

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?
