my service engine soon light comes on everytime I drive the car. the dealer ran a diagnostics on it and said it was the erg valve . Will it hurt to drive the car with this light on.

If your egr valve is not working right, You may not be burning all the fuel before sending it to the exaust. Your car could start surging, pinging, or stalling.

Replace the valve. It's a cheap investment.

Also check your TVS switch. If it's out the valve doesn't work at all.

what is a TVS switch ? and were can i find it ?

Have you changed the O2 sensor? I have an 86 Z, 350TPI, and frequently got the EGR code and check engine light coming on. Put in new EGR, Sensor, Vac hose etc. and still got the light. Finally changed the O2 sensor. Have not had problems since. Car even idles better.
