Question

Ok, What does it mean when you hit the gas, your 350 mild build small block with a holly 600 CFM Double Pumper runs ok, then when you release the pedal and coast your engin starts backfireing in your exaust.

I think it means my idle metering screws are set to rich. What do you guys think?

Is it a real loud backfire or just a angry popping sound?

Could be backpressure

i just went through 6 months of a popping noise. it was the pullution pump pumping air into the exhust on deceleration.

Beattie z28 is right, if you have a smog pump with bad 'check valves' it can backfire pretty loud sometimes on decel. Also check for an exhaust leak pulling in fresh air, keeping your exhaust burning in the pipes.
