Okay for awhile something kept draining my battery and the cables were hot, took the alternator to be checked and it was okay, ran a check through all the systems and couldn't find a short anywhere, so when i took the alternator in i decided to get a new voltage regulator, since i put it on yesterday i hooked the battery back up(fully charged) and let it set over night came out today and it started right up. My question is could a bad voltage regulator casue my battery cables to get hot? or do i have another problem that i am overlooking?

It probably was the regulator - was it an original type or a newer solid state transistor type?
