Can you give me some symptons of a bad coil or distributer..and not the cap itself the actual distributer? Please help!

might want to try sticking a screw driver into the end of a plug wire and see if it will jump to the block...(or your finger)

I have had coils act funny and inconsistent, so now I always keep a spare around to test with. You might try finding another coil too. As far as the distributor goes...if it is a points type, sometimes those can get worn, or rusted if it has been a long time since it was used. Try opening the cap and looking in there to see any obvious burnt areas or heavy contamination. After that, make sure you got the correct juice and then try the screwdriver trick again. This will probably give everyone here enough info to help you figure it out from there. If it is an HEI type distributor...there are very few things to go wrong and may need the module replaced (cant tell from just looking at it) Good luck
