Has anyone had problems with MSD ignition equipment or is it just me?

No problems with MSD PRO BILLET distributor or BLASTER COIL, but multiple problems with 6AL, DIGITAL-6 PLUS and BOOST TIMING MASTER boxes. Twice from the factory, as in brand spanking new, they produced no spark. One time a unit lasted less than 30 seconds. Another time less than one day. The problem is they just stop producing any spark.

MSD has guaranteed me there is nothing external that could do this and that I have just gotten faulty equipment. Thru their trouble shooting procedure the have verified that the boxes were defective.

This is a '69 Z28 with ZZ4 engine, B&M 144 blower, new one wire alternator, new ministarter, completely rewired with painless harness, new battery in trunk. Everything works fine and the car runs great, other than the MSD stuff. The problems started before the car was redone with all the above new equipment.

We use MSD6AL boxes on our power carts at work. These old generator sets are powered by ford inline 6 cylinder engines and we have quite a few of them. These carts take quite a beating, they run 365 days a year being started and shutdown many times a day. Typically the engines only last a couple of years before they're worn out.
We needed back up overspeed protection(and a more reliable spark) so about 4 years ago we installed these 6AL boxes, to date none has failed. On occasion when the carts mechanical governer has failed, the units have been known to run on the rev limiter for many hours until some one notices its running rough.
Sounds like your luck's not to good.

Usually, the boxes fail from incorrect or intermittant grounding, and can fail rather quickly from this. I have found the best way to run the large red and black wires is to do the red one directly to battery positive post, black to battery negative post, not to engine or frame.

Thanks for the above replys. The battery is in the trunk with ground wires to the frame, body and directly to the engine. The ground wire form the MSD is connected to the ground from the battery to the engine. It has a direct connection to the battery but I will run the wirre directly to the battery instead of to the engine block. Hopefully this will help. Thanx again for the info.
