I have a new hei distributor. I know the firing order but which cap plug is #1. I think it is the one next to the vacuum advance but I am not sure.

Normally,if the distributor is installed properly # 1 tower will be pointing? toward the #1 cylinder(just to the drivers side of center) Actually you can put #1 wire anywhere you want,as long as the distributor is indexed properly.

You were right. It was pointing at the #1 cylinder. I found TDC and it was in the same location. Thanks.
