I need some info on the gear that is on the tail shaft in my old buggy. I have a 74 camaro with a 73 motor(350) and tranny(350. Not sure about the rear end but I would guess it to be a stock 3.23. Speedo quit and I pulled the tail shaft housing. the gear that is on the tail shaft moves around pretty easily. I put it back in place and hooked everything back together and it worked for about a mile or 2 and then no more. Does that gear have a clip that it needs to hook onto the tail shaft or is it supposed to be able to slide around some. I would guess a part is broken on it but I cant find any diagram or info on this to try to figure it out on my own.

There should be a spring steel clip that locates and retains it on the output shaft.

If you go to the G.M. dealer they should have picks on the screen at the parts counter. If you know anyone at a tranny shop they should have a clip. I think once you see the part you will see how it fits.
