Question

This is my first post in this forum and I have a 67 camaro with a 350. The problem is it is just not running right. I can crank it up and it spits and sputters the whole time, and when I try to give it gas it back fires or seems to want to shut off. I got the carborator rebuilt, which is a 650 holley double pumper, and it did not help any. Changed the points in the distributor and still no luck. Then we checked for vaccuum and everywhere we checked the vaccum was low. What would I need to replace or check? Any advice would be appreciated and thanks for the replies in advance!

I'll try not to be too long winded on this but it's not easy! Check your voltage, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Try it without the condenser. Check fuel pump pressure, volume, and vacuum. Check valve lift(bad cam). Check distributor shaft play(spark scatter). If these don't fix it pull your tming cover and check chian for slop. Sticking valves, broken springs, and blown gaskets can cause this also. EGR and manifold butterfly are suspects also. This should give you a better idea of what can go wrong. If it's an intermittent electrical problem you probably will have to wait for total failure to find it. I suspect the dist. or timing chain will fix it though. Don't forget water in the gas either. This list covers @ 95% of the symptoms you're having. Good luck & let us Know!

P.S. I assumed your carb is not the problem, no difference before/after, and that you will follow goat's recommendations. Also, welcome to the forum!
