I know what an ECM is, but what does the term PCM refer to and what does it stand for? I am trying to figure out a problem I am having with my cooling fan and I think this part may be the problem, directly or indirectly.

Powertrain Control Module or Programmable Control Module.
It's sort of the same thing as an ECM, depending on the car/year.

GM kinda phased in the term/acronym PCM when They started using the ECM to control more(trans etc) than just the engine...
