Hey Guys n Gals! Its Harley!! problem w 68

I have an HEI and installed a Mallory CD box and it smoked a wire in the engine wiring harness. I then installed a pertronix flamethrower and made CERTAIN it was receiving a full 12 volts, the problem is the car acts like the rev limiter is stalling out the motor above 2800- and up. Sometimes it stalls, other times it doesnt but doesnt pull like it used to. I traced the wire and it is not being used so that CANT be it but, you know how that goes.
Ive bought another dizzy but came up with parts to build another 1988 block-383. i dont know if the pertronix and coil is bad or what.... any suggestions?

Been gone awhile but aint forgot you guys... Im a radio DJ now. If you would like to chime in and hear me go to ... www.keyb.net and click on listen live. Theres an app to hear on you smart phones also. Just for something neat to do. I enjoy it.
You guys have been great! keep up the forums!!

Hey Harley nice to hear from you again! I had the same issue when I installed my 6AL, it was due to the plug wires. You need to be sure you are using spiral core wires and not solid core. There is a thread about it here..

Hey, Harley IS still alive. Still living in a van down by the river I see. I'd thought by now you would have upgraded to a trailer. Damned economy. Glad to hear you are gainfully employed again.

As said, glad to see you're still here. Nice station. Reminds me of the ones I listened growing up on the farm listening to the stock market, prices of crops, animals and such, at least the afternoon program.

I would make sure no other wires were damaged and simplify the ign circuit just using the HEI and go from there. Then add on. Can't beat a singular HEI.
Coil can be warm to the touch, 110 or so, but not hot as to imprint any formed numbers/letters into the palm from the can.

What times you on ?

And, yes, check plug wires along with plug gaps.

I was wondering if you were still in Clovis while I drove through there one night a few weeks back ...
Good to hear you've landed somewhere you like

Hope all is well
