I have an 86 2.8 MPFI and for some reason it will not start. I have checked for spark and gas in the fuel rail, both of which it has. I have checked timing and Distributor and all is fine. It is getting gas to the chamber but for some reason will not fire even though it has spark. ANY ideas would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks.

engines run on a very simple principle.

Air , Fuel , spark , Timing.

if all these are in order it will run. check the timing again , this sounds like it.

move the lower crank timing, make sure the marks to top Dead Center "TDC" pop off the mark #1 on the distributer cap and then remove it. see if the rotor is in the same spot or very close to it. if no then adjust your distributer accordingly. (small increments are best) then hook a timing light up to the #1 s.p. wire and time it correctly.

I checked timing again and that #1 cylinder and #1 plug is correct on the distributer and is at TDC. The strange thing is is that I had it running 2 nights ago and the next day when I came out to start it up it wouldnt fire. It ran fine the night before. I had just completed putting new gaskets on the top end and check to make sure I had it right and it started fine. It ran at a high idle because I had forgotten to plug the IAC senror back in when I completed my work. But like I said it ran the night before but the next day nothing. Any more suggestions?

I have an 88 2.8 MPFI and the same thing had happened to me. So I took it to my friend who is a certified GM Camaro specialist,who put it on his scope and did all these test. And the conculuson was 2 contacts,had jumped over the fusable links and burnt out.So he fixed that and now she runs sueperb,top notch.
