my stock 305 has run well for a while, but recently, if i run it a long way(~50mi), when i stop it idles really high(~2000) and i try to shut it off, but it keeps running(aroung 200rpms guessing)sometime for 3-5 minutes and puffs blue smoke at the same time, car doesnt smoke otherwise. i have tried changing the timing but doesnt seem to help. the only thing i did different, around the time this started, was change plugs in it. supposed to be the stock plug.i dont know but i would apprieciate any ideas. thanks guys

Try tuning the carb. It might be way too rich keeping some hot carbon spots fed.

funny, blue smoke means too rich, but high idle means too lean

Blue smoke means burning oil.

Black smoke means too rich.

the blue smoke doesnt bother me as much as why is it running at low rpms after the motor is shut off by the key. anyone else had this problem? i have had a few other vehicles do this but only for a few seconds, this one is for at least a minute.

If it is still running (rough) AFTER the ignition is off it is called "run on" means your engine is still getting air from somewhere -I would have to say you have a vacuum leak. The blue smoke during run on would be somewhat normal as it is "opulling over" fuel in the carb and not burning it completly due to no spark from the spark plug (you did say the ignition was off). check to make sure your secondaries aren't stuck open a little.
