Okay so last night I'm driving my 92 RS. I hit it off the light and I hear a "clunk" and it feels like I just ran over a rock. The same thing at the next light.

So I start to take it easy when I go from a dead stop, then once I get about 500 rpm from idle, I gun it. No clunk. Huh? I'm still in first gear?

Why does my transmission feel like its slipping all of a sudden from a dead stop? My 2nd to 3rd to 4th work fine (its an automatic). Last night is the first time this has ever happened ... the car only has 91K miles on it.

Have you checked your fluid level?

My 95 TA burned a bushing in it's Auto Tranny...I am sure similar to yours at 29000 miles. Thank goodness it was under warrenty. $3000 for the repair if not at the pontiac garage. that when I sold the car and bought my 69 Camaro

My transmission did that off my 84 camaro, it was susposedly rebuilt and I was personally thinking about rapping the guy who sold it to me over the head with a pipe wrench because it would clunk, and guess what it was ? my rubber gromet mounts were busted, and the tranny would actually twist in the body about 3 inches either way, Put a new grommet on the tranny, and the clunk went away, along with a horsepower increase from the tranny not having any play in it.

Usually a clunk when it shifts is a broken tranmission mount. But it it's slipping then that's a different story. I had an 87 that had to have the 700R4 trans rebuilt at 80K miles. It's problem was that it wouldn't up shift. It started taking higher RPM's to shift out of 1st gear.
