for a year i was under the impression my egr valve was bad,i bought a used one, and still got a solenoid 1 failure code, bought a new one today
and still got a code, the plastic cover on the connector wires seem fine , is it possible the wires were damaged from the heat, but the plastic covering was not? also, if it is the pcm that will not trigger the solenoid, is there a specialty shopp that can repair the pcm, without buying a new one?

No need to post in more than one forum. In the electrical forum someone asked if you would clue us in on the model you're dealing with. That would go a long way toward helping us help you diagnose the problem. Have you picked up a haynes manual to see if there is a diagnostic procedure you can do with a DVM? Beyond that, there are other things that can prevent the thing from coming on, but we have to know the model. Consider T-ing in a vacuum guage to see if the solenoid is in fact turning on the vacuum.
