I have a 89 and sometimes my trunk motor just gets stuck down, so I just push the latch down and the motor will rise back up to shut the trunk when I close it, if it doesn't work at all you should probably go to the bone yard and get another one

Take out that motor and do it the way mine is. Take out the motor and side the track to the closed postion. then drill some holes though it and bolt it in place. the the hatch will work like the older 3rd gen 82-85,

bj,
How about the obvious fix ? Get a new motor and replace it. The factory service manual, which all of us should have so we can work on our vehicles, will have pretty decent, step by step, troubleshooting and repair directions.

Except that motor can run as high as $300.00 on some of the 3rd gens. You are in luck though, I just got some pricing from our almost local 3rd gen shop and they have used ones. 85-91 are $100 and 92' are $35. Should be a place like that by you. If not, let me know and I will give you their phone number. The ship everywhere.

We need a feature on the web site that puts cob-webs in the corner of the post if it's older than a year or so. LOL
