Just had a front headlamp blow on the low beam and was wondering if there is a better brand to replace these with? Something brighter or more reliable. How easy is it to install a new lamp? I have the RS option and it looked pretty cramped in there. I want to get it in this weekend instead of riding around with brights on all night.

Go with a Halogen bulb, Erik. It will make a big difference!

We (COCC) are having a show tomorrow near your neck of the woods... at Key Automotive (off Brice Rd.). You be able to make it?

I would strongly advise buying Hella H4 headlamps.

They are the 7" round type, so they will fit in your stock headlight buckets, and they will accept standard H4 bulbs. These are MUCH brighter, standard sealed-beam halogens don't even compare. This will also give you the option of upgrading to a HID headlight in the future...

I prefer the non DOT-approved version, PN 70476. They are extremely bright, and don't bother the oncoming traffic. They're $10 more, but you only buy them once!

Erik, I have Sylvania Extravision halogen bulbs. They have been out for years, and are a direct bolt in. I installed them when I rebuilt my car several years ago. They are much brighter that stock and brighter that regular halogens. But they only cost a few dollars more and are a bolt in. I got mine at Autozone, they are in a purple package.

I am also running relays for my headlights, with large guage wire from the battery to the lights, with the switch just activating the relays. So this may be part of the reason they seem so bright to me. But I'd give them a try if I were you if you don't want to get into any fancy high dollar conversion.

I wouldn't worry about the cost, the headlights I were talking about are $37 or so. I've used the Xtravision ones too. They work well, but are only a minor upgrade.

Only the HID ones are expensive, about $600.
