Could arich fuel mixture ( a good puff of black exhaust on initial WOT) cause any kind of piston scuffing problems due to excessive cylinder wash caused by the fuel? Sort of think this may be a better way to run a stock 302 than lean , but dont know for sure. Any experienced 302ers out there?

Adjust your choke a little more lean. Too much choke at start up can cause the smoke.

To scuff the cylinder walls and pistons the car has to run real rich, like fuel dripping out of the tail pipe rich.
