I got a '69 SS 350 bored 355 with a beefy cam and some other junk...its got a 9" rear with 3.89 gears, 3sp th350 set up with a quarter stick shifter were you have to shift it. Every time i push it into 2nd gear it thumps loud and HARD underneath the car towards back...i thought once maybe its the traction bars coming up and biting the leaf springs (they dont' have rubber stoppers). i dont' know...cause when you hit 2nd gear the car springs forward pretty fast with the 3.89 gears.....any help would do some good

While checking out the trans mount you might also take a look around the floorpan near the differental center section. Look to see if there is banged up sheet metal in or around the transmission tunnel. Also look around the section where the differential snubber bushing is located in the center of the floorpan above the center differential housing. If this busing is missing or trashed it can cause interference between the housing/driveshaft and the floorpan. With a 9" you may have to do a little creative work to fix the problem.
