A few days ago I dropped the engine back in my 87 Trans Am after having it rebuit(actually I dropped the engine in with the trans). Sure enough after a full days worth of work I crawl under the car to put the converter to flywheel bolts in and I notice the flywheel teeth seem a bit too far from the starter gear. Then of course i realize I put it on backward. My question is, is this really all that important? The starter seems like it will grab at lease half of the flywheel teeth, and the converter bolts are almost torqued down all the way. Should I pull it back out and do it all over again?

Will not work this way. Just unbolt trans from motor(block motor up)and slide trans back far enough on cross member to get to flex plate bolts. I did almsot the same thing only I used the wrong flex plate on a ZZ4 motor that did not have the right convertor bolt pattern. Good luck this time.
