Unhappy

I am have technical difficulties with my new brake system on my 68 RS SS big block camaro. I think that my stainlees sleeved 309 master cylinder is faulty. I can't get the rear brakes to bleed properly. I seems that the master cylinder isn't picking up fluid from the reservoir on the return stroke. Has anyone had a similar problem. Any advise would be apprecaited

Have you adjusted the clevis from the master (or booster) to the brake pedal so you have the correct pedal free play as shown in the A.I.M.? If this isn't adjusted right, it will put constant pressure on the master cylinder rear piston, and only slight movement will push the front lip of the piston seal past the edge of the compensating port so fluid can't flow into the bore from the reservoir. With the pedal at rest and the free play properly set, you should be able to insert a small-diameter wire through the compensating port orifice into the master cylinder bore; if the wire won't go in, the rear piston front seal is too far forward.
