My buddy has a 69 and he put in a 383 speed-o-motive long block. I could list the other extras but let's just say he put 5 grand in it. He did everything right with the break in including changing oil 3 times in 75 miles. when he drove about 30 miles to a cruise night he had a knock in the bottom end at all speeds. Oil pressure was good etc. He pulled the motor and took it back to speed-o-motive and it turned out to be the weight on the crankshaft was hitting the moroso deep pan. The side of the pan was bent in towards the crank. Defective pan. No damage was done to the motor. Has anyone ever heard of anything like that?

Yes- but, was the pan damaged during install of the engine or was the motor assembled with a bent pan? If the pan was already bent the interference should have been caught during assembly. I always dry assemble the pan to motor with no gasket and check for rotating interference, the gasket will add just a little more clearance during final assembly but, I fix any interference I find.
