Hello all.
I have a mysterious rattling over bumps in my 1978 Z. I looked under the car with the wheels off the ground and found nothing loose. I then lower the car onto ramps to compress the shocks and again found no noise or evidence of the mystery rattle. The exhaust is tight and not touching the body. All the ball joints and tie rods are nice and tight too. As well as the shock mounts and all the bushings I could see. Please help. Thanks for trying.

Try having someone go with you for a ride and sit in the back listening for any leads to the location. That'll narrow your search.

How about the sway bar brackets and end links? Pitman arm or idler arm?

Pitman arm is fine. So are the bushings on the sway bars. This weekend I'm going to jack it up and test the A-arms with a crowbar. I can't thing of anything else.

Are the tabs on the front outer brake pads staked tightly to the caliper. The outer pads will rattle like crazy if they aren't. Step lightly on the brake pedal when going over bumps and see if the noise stops.
