Question

I have an 85 v6 MPI camaro body in great shape but the engine went out and the Auto transmission needed to be rebuilt. I found a place near my house that specializes in F-bodies parts. They gave me the pricing on a 93 LT1 with all accesories and a 6-speed tranny with a clutch, pedals, shifter and hydraulics and a new wiring harness, new computer, and guages. The guy said this upgrade has been done before. But to make a buck he may be lying to me. Are their any other things i should worry about. I was palanning in getting a whole new rear axle assembly with disc brakes and better differential. I'm not sure I if i have to replace the driveshaft and if I do about how much does it cost to have one custom built. Also any info if the tranny will fit in the transmission tunnel and if I'll need a new hood for clearance. Any Info would help thank you.

it sounds like it would be a sweet set up, but I have heard that switching an auto car to standard shift is a pain in the a**. I have never done it myself. I have wanted to before but was told not to even try it. good luck. Maybe somebody else can give some better advice.

I also want to know if it is hard to convert form automatic to stick even with the engine and manuel transmission both original from factory but put in a different car. The only problem I think will be getting the hydraulic clutch to work. Any help please or any books that you think would help me.

I'd think the big headache here would be the wiring since the LT1 has completely different computer and fuel injection. Tranny changeover would involve mounting the master cyl and cutting the floor for shifter. BTW, how much did he quote the engine package for? Been thinking about something like this myself. Thought about trying to find a complete car that is totalled.

I found the parts at www.tacreationsusa.com they are located in Miami near me so I don't have to pay shipping. They specialize in camaros and Trans Ams. He quoted me this.

Used 93 LT1 w/6-speed is $2,600 (Includes computer and all accessories, clutch, hydraulics)

New aftermarket wiring harness $390
V8 guages are $50 ($75 for the 145 speedo) used
Clutch pedals assembly are $50 used
Shifter plate $25 used
going to need Computer reprograming, Custom Exhaust, and need to reroute and modifie A/C lines.

This is what he quoted me to convert my camaro.
